To be a surfer in New York City is to simultaneously experience disappointment and joy. It is a unique story of sacrifice and commitment. For many among this unique and finite community, the commute alone can mean hours of sleep missed. In other cases it could mean forfeiting a healthy social life as some of the most committed surfers have shared with us. All of this in pursuit of that one wave, that one ride, that one moment which makes it all worth it. These are The Rockaway Sessions, an ongoing photo and video journal documenting the intimate moments shared by New York City surfers in and out of the water.
